Africa Is No Island

Africa Is No Island

Curators : Jeanne Mercier, Baptiste de Ville d’Avray & Madeleine de Colnet

Africa Is No Island explores the multiple cultural, historical and aesthetic connections linking Africa to the rest of the world. Through a selection of modern and contemporary artworks from the continent and its diaspora, the exhibition challenges the idea of Africa as isolated or peripheral, instead asserting its central role within global artistic dynamics. The artists brought together question notions of circulation, cross-influences and shared heritage, revealing an Africa that is open, fluid and deeply interconnected. Through this journey, MACAAL invites viewers to rethink dominant narratives and to consider the history of African art as a space of dialogue and global resonance.
