In 2019–2020, the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden (MACAAL) hosted New Waves: Mohamed Melehi and the Archives of the Casablanca School, an exploration of the legacy and influence of the Casablanca School through the emblematic work of Mohamed Melehi. The exhibition brings together archives, documents and major works that testify to the modernity and artistic experimentation initiated by this generation of Moroccan artists in the 1960s and 1970s. Through this journey, MACAAL highlights the energy, inventiveness and international outlook of the school, while reflecting on its impact on contemporary practices. New Waves invites visitors to rediscover the history of modern Moroccan art and to understand how this avant-garde shaped a unique and enduring aesthetic.
